If you have a Multi or Mega hosting plan you can host as many domains as you can fit within your plan's disk space and bandwidth limits.  If you have the Mini Plan you can only host one domain with it - please open a help ticket to inquire about upgrading your plan.

There are two parts to adding a new domain to your hosting account.  First, create an account for the domain on our server.  Second, change the nameservers on the domain registration to the Mom Webs nameservers.

1. CREATE AN ACCOUNT FOR THE DOMAIN ON OUR SERVER

Your hosting plan comes with a reseller control panel called Web Host Manager (WHM).  You can use it to create, edit, suspend, and terminate domains and to change the features of each domain.  You can also change passwords, limit the disk space and bandwidth for each domain, and view the disk space and bandwidth used.

Login with your primary domain's domain name and its cpanel login (usually the one that you signed up for hosting with):

https://domain.com/whm

To create a domain click the "Create a New Account" link in the "Account Functions" menu. 

Each domain you create must have a unique username.  Usernames have to be 8 characters or less in length and begin with a letter.  All letters in the username must be lower case.  Numbers are allowed but special characters are not.

Each domain will have a password associated with it.  The password can be pretty much anything, except that it cannot contain the username within it.  Don't use your primary domain's password here or some functions in cpanel will not work.

Under the Packages section check the box labeled "Select Options Manually" so that you can set the disk space and bandwidth limits for the domain. 

If you want to receive email notices when a domain gets close to its disk space or bandwidth limits, put an email address in the Contact Email field.

Leave the box in the DNS Settings section unchecked.

In the Mail Routing Settings, use the Local Mail Exchanger unless you are hosting email on another server (we can help you configure a domain to use Google's free email service or any other external mail server - just open a help ticket and ask.)

2. CHANGE THE NAMESERVERS ON THE DOMAIN REGISTRATION

Note: if you registered your new domain name through Mom Webs then we've already done this step for you.

Login to your domain registrar and change the nameservers listed on the domain's registration to the nameservers that were listed in WHM after you created the account for the domain in step 1 above.  If you've forgotten what those are you can open a help ticket and we'll look them up for you.

Nameserver changes can take up to 48 hours to start working from all parts of the internet.  How fast it works for you depends on the policies of your registrar and your ISP.  It will not start working for everyone at the same time, so you may be able to use the new server before others, or vice-versa.

Once the nameserver change is working from your location you can login to the control panel for the domain and you can upload files using FTP.

Control Panel Login

Each domain on our server has its own control panel, called "cPanel".  You can login to the control panel for a domain by adding cpanel to the end of the domain name like this:

https://domain.com/cpanel  (replace "domain.com" with your new domain name)

The username and password to use are the username and password you created for the domain in step 1 above.

FTP Login

Server or hostname: the domain name **
Port: 21  (most ftp programs default to port 21)
Mode: Passive  (Active mode may work for some programs but Passive mode is more reliable)

** If the domain name is not yet resolving to our server, use your primary (WHM) domain name as the hostname.

Files to be viewed by a web browser must be uploaded in the public_html directory or in a subdirectory that you create in public_html.  Be sure to click into the public_html directory before you begin uploading your site unless you are uploading hidden files.

You can also use the File Manager in cpanel to upload, edit or delete files for your domain.

LOGGING IN TO YOUR DOMAINS' CPANELS

Each domain has its own cpanel.  There are 3 ways to login to your domains' cpanels (other than using their own login):

1. In WHM, select "List Accounts". Find the domain and click on the cpanel icon to the right of the domain name.

2. From cpanel for your primary domain name choose the domain from the drop-down list at the top of the front page.

3. Log directly in using https://domain.com/cpanel (replace "domain.com" with the new domain name). Use the domain's username and the password for your primary domain name. You cannot use that password for ftping to their account or to read the domain's mail.

You can change your domains' passwords at anytime using the Password Modification menu in WHM, but you can't read the current passwords as they are encrypted using one-way encryption.

DELETING DOMAINS

Use the Terminate an Account link in the Account Functions menu to remove a domain from the server. This will not stop traffic from arriving at the server if your domain registration still has our nameservers listed - you have to change that at your domain registrar.

If you accidentally terminate a domain we may be able to recover its files and settings if you open a help ticket prior to the next system backup (which runs at least once a day).

DISK SPACE (QUOTA)

If an account runs out of disk space, no more file uploads will be allowed and any email will be bounced. If a domain is bouncing email this is the first thing to check. An account out of disk space does not get suspended, so pages will still be served. However, if any scripts are running which write to the disk, they may not function correctly due to lack of space. MySQL databases may also become corrupted when disk space runs out.

BANDWIDTH

Bandwidth limits are checked a few times a day. When an account's bandwidth limit is exceeded, the account is automatically suspended by WHM. This is to protect you, us, and your customers (if any) from high bandwidth charges. However, it is possible for a domain to use all of its bandwidth and more in a single day, before the bandwidth is checked by the system. This is very rare, but in the event that it does happen you will be responsible for paying for any bandwidth used above the bandwidth limit on your account, so keep an eye on your domains.

To unsuspend an account, raise the bandwidth limit first and then go to the "Suspend or Unsuspend an Account" section of WHM, find the account, and unsuspend it.
