Meet a Mom Blogger: New Urban Mom
Another great mom blogger trusts her site to us here on MomWebs!
Many people claim to have started a blog because they were passionate about a subject. Even a quick tour around New Urban Mom shows that this is absolutely true in the case of Sharon McMillan. Her enthusiasm for the subject of new urbanism is so evident in the posts she writes that it tends to rub off onto the reader.

Personally, I’d never even heard of “new urbanism.” Sure, people are constantly throwing around words like “green” and “environmentally friendly” these days, but those are sort of blanket terms. “New urbanism” gets right to the heart of the matter by giving an actual solution to lessening our impact on the planet while still living completely fulfilling lives in the cities we love. In Sharon’s own words:
“I chose New Urbanism as the topic for my (main) blog www.newurbanmom.com because new urbanism is about the most practical way to help individuals and families to adopt green living practices. Concepts like shopping locally, walking more and driving less, working close to home or at home, are almost 20 year old concepts introduced as part of the new urbanism movement. Moms are uniquely positioned to promote and encourage more acceptance and adoption of new urbanism principles across the country.”
But, I wouldn’t want to spoil the experience of you learning all about it at New Urban Mom, so I won’t say any more on that for now. The blog is enjoyable because it isn’t just a bunch of harping on a pet subject. Instead, it is engaging and practical. In the “Green Living” section, the blog explores the McMillans’ decision to become a one-car family. In “City Life” it takes a look at how we can reach out to individuals to create more community in our communities. There’s even a section devoted to holidays, and not just the one’s you’re thinking of right now.
New Urban Mom has a nice mix of personal and topical information. The tone is one of sincerity, so when Sharon talks about her kids, it doesn’t seem at all out of place, despite the fact that they’re not the blog’s main focus. She also manages to include the occasional book review and contests with some really cool prizes.
In addition to the blog, there is also a New Urban Mom Podcast where Sharon is able to interview people who are living the New Urban lifestyle.

Meet a Mom Blogger: Busy Moms, Healthy Moms
August 4, 2008 by Kelly · 2 Comments
We’re pleased to introduce you to another Mom Blogger who finds her home on the web here at MomWebs.
Busy Moms, Healthy Moms is a great resource for finding ways to save time and money so that you can devote those things to what’s most important - your kids.
The blog is run by Cynthia Overfield, and my goodness does she have a lot of information to share. There are tons of useful articles focusing on all kinds of topics. The frugal living tips, for example, offer really simple things that everyone can do to trim a little fat from the household budget. Speaking of the house, Cynthia also offers suggestions on how to be better organized, as well tips for decorating.
If you’re following all of the advice, then there’s a good chance you’ve freed up a little cash and a lot of time. Don’t worry, Busy Moms, Healthy Moms can help you figure out what to do with that, too. The “Kid Corner” and “Busy Moms Crafting Ideas” both offer fun activities for you and your kids. There’s even a section on beauty tips just for Mom.
All of these topics deal with the “Busy Moms” aspect of the title, but the “Healthy Moms” part is addressed, too. The “Natural Kids” and “Busy Moms Kitchen” sections both take your family’s health into consideration. As a matter of fact, the planet’s health is even tackled in the “Living Green” section of the blog.
There are a couple of handy specialized sections, too, that can help keep Mom on track. The “Back to School Series” has suggestions for making mornings run more smoothly and how to save money on lunches. The “Busy Moms Meal Planning Help” offers advice on how to plan meals ahead, as well as how to make those meals healthier every day.
Busy Moms, Healthy Moms is a comprehensive blog that really considers what topics are the most useful to today’s mothers. Whether you’re looking to save a few bucks or get your kids to eat healthier, there’s something on this blog for you.
